This summer, ADT welcomed 47 talented interns from universities across the country to our Corporate Internship Program. From tackling real-world challenges to engaging with top executives, the program provided a dynamic introduction to ADT and showcased why ADT is a leading company in security and top destination for emerging talent. With recognition on the Forbes Best Employers for New Grads 2024 list, it’s clear that ADT is a place where you can shape the future of your career. Let’s take a closer look at the experiences and programming that empowered our interns to take ownership of their career while at ADT!

Learning from Leadership:

From the start, our interns were immersed in ADT’s dynamic culture. They had exclusive access to our Executive Leadership Team (ELT) through engaging “ELT Chats.” These sessions offered a rare opportunity to interact with top executives, while gaining insights into their career journeys and ADT’s strategic direction. Interns heard from each member of the ELT team individually, and altogether as part of an ELT Roundtable session that allowed interns to ask questions to the group and hear how they function as a team to put ADT’s best foot forward.

Through the several sessions we had with C-level executives, I learned the importance of networking and developing professional relationships. This pushed me to get out of my comfort zone, which helped me improve my technical skills.

In addition to ELT Chats, interns engaged with leaders from different lines of business such as ADT Health, Monitoring, Government Affairs, Inclusive Diversity and Belonging, Strategic Partnerships, and more. These presentations allowed interns to explore key areas of the company and understand how each contributes to ADT’s overall mission.

Hands-On Challenges

At ADT, interns aren’t just observers—they’re integral contributors to our mission. This summer, our interns tackled projects that directly impacted the business. One of the most important aspects of the internship is the “Capstone projects”, where each ADT intern addresses a current challenge facing ADT. They work on solutions that align with business goals, culminating in a final presentation given to major stakeholders, executives, and team members at the conclusion of the internship.

“The most memorable moment of my internship was presenting my capstone project to our Chief Information Officer and the IT Leadership Team. It was the first time I’d given a major presentation in front of executives, and I was so grateful to have the opportunity to present to them.”

ADT Interns also got the chance to compete in an AI Case Competition, where teams were tasked with developing innovative artificial intelligence solutions for a specific line of business. Each team then got to present their recommendations and research to a panel of judges from ADT’s Strategic Partnerships team who then chose competition winners and evaluated each solution to actually be implemented at ADT.

Interns visited ADT’s Engineering Technology Center Lab where ADT’s products are tested and developed for real use.

“I enjoyed being able to learn and work hands-on with experienced professionals on real projects. At the end of the summer, I earned the Technology Innovations Award and was hired as a Manager of Workforce Analytics. It felt incredibly rewarding to see the effort I put in acknowledged in such a meaningful way.”

Learning About ADT’s Innovative Products and Processes in Action

Interns had the unique opportunity to learn more about the cutting-edge technology, products and processes at ADT’s Innovation House, where ADT products are showcased in real-world scenarios, providing a firsthand look at how the technology operates and evolves.

A visit to the Pompano sales office offered insights into our Sales and Field Operations departments, allowing interns to see how ADT solutions are implemented and supported in the field. Additionally, a tour of the Engineering Technology Center Lab provided an inside view of the rigorous testing and development processes our products undergo before they reach customers. These experiences gave interns a comprehensive understanding of how ADT’s technology is designed, tested, and delivered, connecting their work to the broader impact on our business and customers.

Opportunities for Networking and Professional Development

Professional development was a key focus of the program, with numerous opportunities for interns to learn from others and expand their networks. Sessions on personal branding and Inclusion, Diversity and Belonging gave interns valuable advice on how to present themselves professionally, build authentic connections, and engage in meaningful ways. Networking events like Social Networking Bingo, intern social hours, and outings to TopGolf and the ADT Suite at a Miami Marlins game, helped build camaraderie among the intern cohort while creating lasting connections with current ADT employees.

Embracing ADT’s Culture

Working onsite at ADT’s headquarters in Boca Raton, interns get to experience the vibrant culture, while enjoying ADT’s full amenities such as the fitness center, coffee shop, salon, and collaborative workspace. The experience of working alongside Boca full-time employees and using the resources allows interns to experience ADT’s workplace culture firsthand.

Giving Back to the Community

Starting in week 1 of the program, interns experienced how ADT’s mission extends beyond the workplace and into the community. ADT’s commitment to corporate social responsibility is a central theme woven throughout the internship program, and interns completed service projects with the YMCA of South Palm Beach County and the American Red Cross, supporting impactful community initiatives.

“During my internship, I had the opportunity to volunteer with other employees and interns at the YMCA and Red Cross. This experience helped all of us to connect outside of work and made me realize as a company we don’t just help our customers, but we also help to support our community.”

With a commitment to professional development and creating a sense of community, it’s clear why ADT is a top choice for highly motivated students looking to jumpstart their careers.
