Innovation moves faster when more perspectives are at the table. At ADT, women engineers are driving the future of tech by building smarter systems, driving product quality, and fostering inclusive teams that move technology forward.

Tiffany Vo, Firmware Engineer, and Laura Woods, Lead Senior Quality Engineer, are making a measurable impact on the customer experience while supporting a culture where people and ideas grow.

This is what it looks like when engineers lead with purpose.

Building What’s Next Starts Early

For both Tiffany and Laura, the journey into engineering began with curiosity and a strong desire to build things that work better.

Tiffany’s interest began with a summer robotics course for elementary/middle school students. “I was the only girl in the class, which, in a room filled with middle school boys, was not the most enjoyable experience. But I did learn how to build and program a sumo robot, which was really rewarding. At the end of the summer, we had a competition, and my robot won.”

Laura’s story goes back even further. “One thing that really stuck with me was a game called The Incredible Machine on those old Macintosh computers in our school’s lab. I loved building those miniature Rube Goldberg machines to solve the game’s puzzles.”

Both experiences sparked lifelong passions for engineering, and a drive to build systems that solve real problems.

Turning Passion into Product Impact

Today, Tiffany works on ADT’s firmware team, building infrastructure tools that help ensure releases are safe, secure, and reliable. “It’s a great feeling when I check a new release and see that my PR made it in.”

Laura plays a critical role in ADT’s SMART Monitoring product suite. “By allowing customers to cancel the alarm or request police before the alarm is viewed, and implementing alarm scoring… we reduce the number of false alarms and help ensure the most critical alarms are viewed first by agents.”

Their work contributes directly to ADT’s mission — protecting people and securing what matters most — while reinforcing a culture of Bold innovation and data-driven quality. As Laura puts it, “By leaning into the ADT motto that every second counts, and putting quality first in everything we do, we are directly impacting customers’ lives in some of their most critical life moments.”

The Power of Mentorship and Giving Back

Tiffany credits mentorship and community with helping her grow her confidence and career. At UC Santa Cruz, she joined MESA, a program for first-generation engineering students. “With this program came mentorships, opportunities for research and internships, and support every step of the way. I attribute most of my college successes to them.”

In her previous role, she helped launch a global network for women in embedded systems and hosted a live Q&A with her department’s first woman VP. “I was super proud of myself for just putting myself out there despite being a complete newbie filled with nervousness.”

Laura shares how mentors from every stage of life helped shape her voice as a leader, and why she now makes space for others to thrive. “It’s also about the human side of things, like mentoring a teammate who’s stuck, even if it means shifting my own priorities a bit.” Both women’s career journeys are proof of the power of an environment where people can grow, lead, and thrive.

Building a Culture Where Every Voice Matters

Tiffany highlights how diverse perspectives are essential to innovation. “As we delve further into technology, more complex problems appear; it is crucial to have a diverse workforce that can help solve and design more inclusive solutions and push innovation.”

Laura has navigated challenging environments and found her voice through resilience and confidence. “Over time, I’ve learned to stop caring what others think of me and remain confident in myself. I’m here for a purpose. I’m here because I deserve to be. I’m here because I’m good at what I do and earned this place in my career.”

Their stories reflect the culture ADT is building, one where people lead with ownership, support each other’s growth, and elevate outcomes for customers and colleagues.
