Finding Your People and Your Path: Jemima’s ADT Internship Experience
When Jemima Gay started looking for internships during her senior year at Florida Atlantic University, she knew she wanted a role that would help her explore both technology and project management.
As a computer science student with a minor in artificial intelligence, she was interested in working with product and software teams, solving problems, and finding opportunities to improve processes. That’s what initially drew her to ADT’s Corporate Internship Program.
“ADT seemed more technically involved with the project management role, which interested me the most,” she says.
What she didn’t realize at the time was that the internship would give her much more than experience within a single team.
Over the course of the summer, Jemima worked alongside ADT’s pilot team, helping support product testing efforts before products move toward launch. At the same time, she was learning about nearly every part of the business through ADT’s internship program, connecting with leaders across the company, building friendships with fellow interns, and discovering where she wanted her career to go after graduation.
By the end of the program, that experience led to a full-time role as a Product Analyst at ADT. Today, she’s still building on projects and ideas that began during her internship.
Seeing the Bigger Picture at ADT
Like many students beginning an internship, Jemima expected to spend most of her summer focused on learning her role.
Instead, she found herself getting an inside look at the business from multiple angles.
Throughout ADT’s Corporate Internship Program, interns spend time learning about different functions across the company, meeting leaders, participating in professional development opportunities, and connecting with fellow interns from departments across the business.
For Jemima, that meant gaining exposure not only to her team’s work, but to the people and functions that help power ADT every day.

Jemima and fellow interns during an offsite visit to ADT's Engineering Technology Center (ETC Lab), where they explored the innovation, testing, and technology that power ADT products.
Interns visited ADT’s sales office to learn directly from sales and installation teams, toured the Engineering Technology Center where ADT products are tested and developed, explored a hands-on smart home experience showcasing ADT technology, spent time in the field observing technicians during customer installation visits, and attended sessions with leaders from across the organization.
They also heard directly from members of ADT’s Executive Leadership Team, participated in a coffee chat with the CEO, and engaged in discussions about leadership, business strategy, artificial intelligence, professional development, and the future of work.
For Jemima, those experiences helped bring the bigger picture into focus.
“I’ve been able to connect with a lot of different people from different departments,” she says. “Those conversations have helped me a lot and also gave me the bigger picture of how the different teams contribute to the customer experience ADT provides.”
As the summer progressed, she began to understand not just what her team did, but how teams across the company work together toward shared goals.
Finding a Community Along the Way
While the professional experiences stood out, the people ended up being just as important.
One of the things Jemima remembers most about the internship is the sense of community that developed among the intern cohort.

A Miami Marlins game from the ADT Suite gave interns the chance to network, unwind, and enjoy time together outside of work.
Throughout the summer, interns connected through experiences that took them far beyond their day-to-day responsibilities. They worked together on a case competition centered around real business challenges facing ADT, volunteered with community partners, attended frequent networking and professional development events, and spent time together outside the office, including a visit to the ADT suite at a Miami Marlins game.
“The bonding activities have been the most impactful part of my internship experience,” she says.
Those connections helped transform a group of interns from different backgrounds and functions into a genuine community.
“I grew very close with a lot of the other interns, whether or not they were in my department,” she says. “I had a lot of fun during my internship. I was happy to come into work every day to have that community.”

The relationships extended beyond the intern class itself. Through ADT’s Peer Mentor Program, interns were paired with former interns who had successfully transitioned into full-time roles, giving them another opportunity to ask questions, seek advice, and learn from people who had recently been in their shoes.
That network became an important part of her experience and helped reinforce one of the lessons she’d carry forward: some of the most valuable opportunities come from simply getting to know people.
Finding Confidence Through Contribution
As she grew more comfortable in the role, Jemima began looking for ways to contribute beyond her day-to-day responsibilities.
That mindset ultimately shaped her capstone project, which every intern completes during the program.
Drawing on her background in artificial intelligence, she examined existing pilot-team processes and looked for ways automation could help improve efficiency.
“Developing and presenting my capstone was one of the most memorable moments because I was able to look at the pilot team’s existing processes, identify opportunities for improvement, and propose solutions that involved AI and automation.”
The project allowed her to combine technical knowledge, creativity, and problem-solving while contributing ideas that could continue supporting the team after the internship ended. In fact, it’s work she’s still helping develop today.
Looking back, she says one of her biggest areas of growth came from becoming more proactive in seeking information, asking questions, and utilizing the resources around her.
“I think where I grew the most was using my resources,” she says.
Through conversations with teammates, exposure to different business functions, and opportunities to tackle real projects, she developed both confidence and a stronger understanding of the type of work she wanted to pursue long term.
A Natural Next Step
Today, Jemima works as a Product Analyst supporting ADT’s pilot team, a role that grew directly from the hands-on experience she gained as an intern. After spending the summer contributing to real projects, building relationships, and learning how teams across the organization worked together, transitioning into a full-time position felt like a natural next step.
“The transition felt pretty natural because during my internship, I had already been given the opportunity to contribute to the real projects the team was working on,” she says.
Advice for Future ADT Interns
When asked what advice she would give future interns, her answer comes back to the same theme that shaped her own experience.
Take advantage of every opportunity.
Meet people outside your immediate team. Ask questions. Volunteer for projects. Stay curious.
“Some of my most valuable experiences came from volunteering for projects,” she says.
And perhaps most importantly:
“Look for ways to contribute beyond your assigned tasks and talk to people outside of your team.”
For Jemima, those choices helped turn one summer into a full-time career. They also helped her find something many students hope an internship will provide: a clearer sense of direction, a stronger professional network, and the confidence to take the next step.
