To assist you in landing your next role, Barbie Blanco, Corporate Recruiter at ADT, unveils her top 3 tips designed to help you better position yourself as a top candidate.

Barbie is a Sr. Recruiter with the Corporate Talent Acquisition team, and supports the Marketing, Corporate Communications and Customer Experience teams at ADT. She’s been with ADT for 4 years and has been a Recruiter for the last 9, having held roles in Public Relations, Marketing and Sales early in her career. What she most loves about being a recruiter is finding that perfect match for both candidates and hiring managers, “I find great fulfillment in positively impacting someone’s life by playing a role in the next chapter of their career journey.”

Whether you are a recent graduate, or an experienced professional, these tips are crafted to help you stand out in the hiring process and secure your next role.

1. Craft an impressive resume and ensure your LinkedIn profile aligns with your resume

Your resume is often the first impression a potential employer has of you. Ensure it is up-to-date, free from spelling errors, and professionally formatted. To ensure consistency, your LinkedIn profile should reflect the same job history and education information as your resume. This alignment ensures that potential employers see a coherent professional story, making your application more credible.

“It’s always helpful when a candidate embeds a link on their resume that connects to their LinkedIn profile, making it seamless for recruiters to cross-reference your professional history,” Barbie said.

2. Research the company thoroughly before your interview

Review press releases, the company’s career site, and social media pages, to better understand business objectives. Take time to research any updates that can inform you about the role you applied for, history of the company, and future-state projections of where the company is going.

For example, here is ADT’s investor relations page, https://investor.adt.com/overview/default.aspx, underscoring our mission, latest financial results, and more. Another great place to learn about the company is on its newsroom page. You can find ADT’s newsroom here: https://newsroom.adt.com/

Once you feel like you understand the company, get to know your audience! Take time to learn about the hiring manager or interviewer’s professional background and their current role at the company, by viewing their LinkedIn profile.

This preparation will help you better understand the company’s goals, objectives, mission, and the interviewer’s perspective, enabling you to better market yourself, and underscore how your specific qualifications and experience will benefit the company.

3. Prepare relevant questions for your interview and send a thank you note after

Demonstrate your interest and research by asking specific, thoughtful questions during your interview. Avoid questions that could be easily answered by looking at the company’s website (see tip #2) and instead, focus on questions that will help you better understand how you’ll contribute to the company’s success.

“It’s important that your needs and wants in a career are met, too, so be sure to ask questions relevant to what you will expect from your next employer, as well as questions relevant to how you’ll play a role in the business’ objectives and if the position offers career growth opportunities. This is your opportunity to ensure this role is the right fit for you!”

After your interview, send a thank you note or email to the hiring manager. This small gesture shows your appreciation for the opportunity and reinforces your interest in the role. It is also helpful to mention something specific that you discussed in the interview to show you were engaged and attentive.

By following these tips, you’ll better position yourself as a well-prepared and thoughtful candidate. Looking for more tips on landing your next role? Check out https://jobs.adt.com/early-career/ to hear more tips from ADT recruiters.
