In an industry often seen as male-dominated, Tristia Melzer has made her mark as a Technician Engineer at ADT. With over 15 years of experience in the field, she has excelled in her technical expertise, while embracing challenges of her role with confidence. At ADT, Tristia found a culture that elevates her to serve a greater purpose—protecting and connecting what matters most for her customers.

A Unique Role in Tech

Tristia’s role at ADT is a blend of sales and installation, offering her a unique opportunity to connect directly with customers while providing essential services. “As a Technician Engineer at ADT, I love that I can save customers time by handling both the sales and installation in one visit,” she explains. With 15 years of experience delivering exceptional customer service, Tristia has honed her ability to assess customer needs and customize security solutions that ensure peace of mind.

At ADT, Tristia feels empowered to take ownership of her work, benefiting from the freedom and flexibility that her role provides. “I work alone and totally prefer that. I get to follow my own system, and each day get to be out in the field instead of an office.”

Every day brings a new challenge and a chance to make a difference. Whether it’s helping a customer feel secure after a break-in or providing proactive safety measures, Tristia takes pride in her work. “It’s about helping people feel safe and secure in their homes,” she notes. “Being able to provide them that sense of relief and peace of mind is my favorite part of my job.”

Embracing Challenges with Confidence:

Working in a male-dominated field can come with its challenges. Tristia acknowledges that she often faces skepticism from some clients and colleagues who may not expect a woman to excel in this role. “There are times when people still question my expertise or follow me around to see if I know what I’m doing,” she admits. “But I’ve learned to handle it with confidence.” Tristia noted that no matter what skepticism she may face, she quickly earns the trust of her customers by delivering on their expectations day in and day out.

Her presence as a female technician also often surprises customers, especially those who appreciate having a woman in their home. “I find that many of my clients—especially stay-at-home moms and single women—feel more comfortable with me,” she shares. This connection enhances the trust her clients place in her and helps her provide further peace of mind throughout her visit.

Tristia’s Advice to Women Entering a Male-Dominated Industry:

Reflecting on her journey, Tristia shares valuable advice for women entering the field:

“Don’t be afraid to jump in; just because these roles are typically male dominated, doesn’t mean women can’t excel, and they usually do. You may get a little pushback when you start, but remember, you are just as capable as anyone else. Once you get the hang of it, you’ll rock it out.”
